Inputs

These tiers reflect commonly published weight-based starting ranges — they're guidance for a starting point, not prescriptions. Most owners begin at the low tier.

A 30 ml bottle holds roughly 600 drops; a full 1 ml dropper is about 20 drops.

Suggested starting dose

1.5 mg/day

0.18 ml per day of your 250 mg / 30 ml oil — roughly 4 drops.

Start low, go slow

  1. Give the starting dose once daily for a week — many owners add it to food or a treat.
  2. Observe your dog: energy, appetite, digestion, behaviour.
  3. Then adjust gradually if needed, one small step at a time. If anything seems off, stop and speak to your veterinarian.

How weight-based dosing works

Published starting-point guidance for CBD and dogs is almost always expressed per unit of body weight, because a 10 lb terrier and a 90 lb shepherd are working with very different bodies. This calculator uses the commonly published weight-based tiers — 0.05 mg per lb for the low tier, 0.125 mg per lb for medium, and 0.25 mg per lb for strong — and multiplies your dog's weight by the tier you select. These are starting-point ranges people commonly use, not prescriptions, and individual dogs vary.

The second half of the tool is unit translation. Pet CBD oils are labelled by total milligrams per bottle, so a 250 mg / 30 ml oil works out to about 8.3 mg per ml. A standard dropper holds roughly 1 ml, which is about 20 drops — so the calculator converts the daily milligrams into an approximate ml and drop count for the strength you choose. The result is a starting point, not a prescription. The full reasoning is in the complete dog dosage guide, and how much CBD oil for dogs covers how owners typically work out where to start.

Your veterinarian comes first

This tool provides general informational guidance only, not veterinary advice. Always consult your veterinarian before giving CBD to your pet, especially if your dog takes medication or has a health condition. Dogs metabolize compounds differently than people do, and your vet knows your dog's history — medications, liver and kidney function, age, and breed considerations — that no web calculator can account for. Whatever you decide together, the universal advice holds: start low, go slow, give once daily for a week, observe, then adjust.
